The movie remake of the popular musical Wicked may have been released in 2024 but that hasn't stopped fans from raving, crying and singing along to the songs. I am one of them and while watching the film I couldn't help but wonder "What Zodiac fits each character best". So that brings us here.
This is all my personal opinion, I will mainly prioritise sun signs but will mention other placements. There will be spoilers
So without further ado...
Elphaba Thropp - Scorpio
Elphaba is strong, passionate, stubborn, and determined. These are traits that I assign to Scorpios, they can be quite intense people. Many of their reactions and actions are based on whatever is brewing in their emotional world. Scorpio is a sign that is known for being the most transformative, Elphaba has always been strong-willed from the beginning but still wants to fit in even though she has learned to live with her green skin. She always saw the colour of her skin as a burden to how she was perceived in society and how her family father and sister (who I dislike deeply) treated her. Elphaba's power lies in her emotions, that is when we see her powers used the most when she is standing up for something she believes in or for the people she loves.
I have heard people say that Elphaba is an Aquarius. Aquarius as a sign is not emotional enough to channel the energy of Elphaba, at most Elphaba has an Aquarius rising. Aquarius is an air sign and can easily detach from people and their emotions, they care in an intellectual and emotional one which is the opposite of what Elphaba embodies as a character. I have also heard people saying Taurus and I do see that, people stereotype Tauruses as lazy and greedy but fail to acknowledge that a lot of the world's game changers and creatives are Tauruses for better or for worse.
However, I would give Elphaba a Taurus moon as Tauruses, albeit as emotional as Scorpio Suns, are more likely to plan a coup instead of running off of pure emotion. Tauruses' emotions will make them stubborn about their principles and values, but with their earthy nature, they will plan before 'exploding'.
Final Verdict: Scorpio Sun Taurus Moon and Aquarius Rising.
Galinda/Glinda Upland - Libra Sun, Cancer Rising.
Glinda is no doubt a Libra through and through. Libras care a lot about 'justice' and at least things being fair on the surface. Libra care a lot about being liked, looking nice and appearing as the 'good guy' in all situations even if they aren't particularly angels. Galinda has a great sense of style which is something that Libras typically have, she keeps things light, is vain, has a sweet appearance and is well shallow. Despite Glinda's appearance and popularity, she doesn't have the respect of the people she wants the most, such as Fiyero and Madam Morrible, who repeatedly state, "I have no faith in you".
One thing about Libras and Cancer placements is that they can be extremely passive-aggressive and very undercut with the shade they throw. They have a habit of disguising negative emotions (jealousy rudeness etc) through subtle digs or manipulation. For example, when Glinda pushes Boq to get together with Nessa, it's not out of the goodness of her heart but for her gain and so she can pursue Fiyero in peace and get him off her tail. I mean she describes Nessa as 'tragically beautiful'. Her good deeds are mostly for her own political or social gain which falls in line with the toxic traits of a Libra. There are multiple scenes of this but here is a link of a TikTok that summarise how I feel about Glinda's character.
Libras rarely go against the grain or stands up against authority figures, we see this in the crucial scene where Elphaba finds out the truth about the Wizard. Glinda invalidates her feelings and tells her to calm down and that she's sure the Wizard and Madam Morrible have an 'explanation' for harming animals and for upholding a lie. Libras are ruled by the scales, the positive side of this is that they try and find balance the negative side of this is that they can rationalise sometimes the terrible things in the name of 'peace and fairness'. This lines up because many politicians and lawyers have been and are Libras, lawyers can be given cases where they have to defend the worst people.
Elphaba gives Glinda a choice during Defying Gravity, and Glinda chooses to become a political figurehead (with limited powers) and keep her popularity while losing the people she loves in the process. Libras often find themselves in positions of being surrounded by people while still feeling lonely. In the musical number 'No One Mourns The Wicked', Glinda is outwardly referring to Elphaba but inwardly speaking about herself. There are moments where we see Glinda showing care for Elphaba but I feel the deleted scenes would have made me buy their friendship more.
She loves and loathes Elphaba because she represents what she is not, Libras often hate and love when someone can see through them. It can make them feel vulnerable as it forces them to dig deeper instead of remaining in the shallow pool they operate in.
Libra often want to be perceived as good but doesn't necessarily dare to speak out and BE good. This video explains it perfectly for Glinda's character and Libras.
Cancer can also be like this with passive-aggressive comments and surface-level words/ acts of 'kindness' we see this when Glinda offers to 'fix' Elphaba once she masters sorcery.
Final Verdict: Libra Sun and Cancer Rising. Cares about how others view her, has a great sense of style is quite shallow but comes across as sweet.
Fiyero Tigelaar - Sagittarius Sun Leo moon & rising
To start with I adored Johnthan Bailey as Fiyero (even though I haven't read the books or seen the musicals) he was just so charming on screen and fun to watch. At first, I was adamant that he was a Leo but then I was like nope he's a Sagittarius. Sagittarius' are known for being adventurous, fun-loving and rebellious. I find Sagittarius' especially the male counterparts to come across as class clowns and outspoken but a lot of Sagittarius are
philosophical by nature despite them not thinking about their actions in the moment/ focusing on having fun, they do care a lot when they decide to.
Elphaba sees past Fiyero's free-spirited persona and sees him for who he is.
I gave Fiyero Leo Moon and rising because Leos usually are very attractive, affectionate to the ones they love and care for and naturally very charming. All qualities which Fiyero has, Sagittarius' tend not to mind throwing themselves in chaotic or complicated situations. Hence him accompanying Elphaba to set the Lion cub free and wearing the poppy that Elphaba summoned on the day that Dr Dillmond was removed from Shiz. By the end of the movie he learns that not everyone can dance through life like him, and that there is more.
Final Verdict: Sagittarius Sun, Leo moon and Rising
Nessarose - Cancer Sun Virgo Rising
Nessarose represents an unevolved Cancer. Cancers are known for being very emotional and sensitive which some would argue automatically makes them empathetic and aware of how their actions impact others. But no, that isn’t always the case. Cancers can be emotionally selfish they live in their emotional world and often have a strong victim complex. This is apparent with Nessa who is incredibly spoilt, especially compared to Elphaba. She expects Elphaba to help her but when it isn’t done on her terms, she freaks out and weeps. Cancers value relationships especially romantic and familial ones and are often the spoilt ones in the family. No, being spoilt isn’t just about money, but about attention. Although Leo's get a lot of flack for needing attention, Cancers are the same if not more, as they need emotional validation. This describes Nessa to a tea, as soon as Boq pays attention to her, she ignores the red flags and doesn’t know much about him to warrant her intense interest in him.

Cancers get easily caught up with the idea of a relationship and having someone to love This aligns with how Cancers usually make their relationships a part of their brand. There is nothing wrong with pouring your heart into a relationship, but it becomes a problem when you lose sight of everything else. Cancers can be extremely jealous too, we see this at the train station scene when she finally notices that Boq has feelings for Glinda and not her. Cancers can often be passive and don’t speak out when necessary, due to possible low self-esteem or needing to be wanted and liked.
I give her a Virgo Rising because Virgos care how they are perceived and usually look put together.
Final Verdict: Cancer sun Virgo Rising
The Wizard - Aquarius or Gemini Sun
The wizard is either an Aquarian or a Gemini. I gave him Aquarius originally because this is a sign that wants to be different, and wants to be the chosen one. The magical unicorn that stands out against everyone but struggles to be different authentically and often puts on a shallow superficial act of being quirky. I see this with the wizard because he creates a facade of having power but is just an ordinary man far from being sentimental. Aquarius is a sign that is associated with technology and forward thinking and we do see this with the Wizard as he uses his technological advancements and inventions to produce this ‘oh so powerful’ persona. I also thought Geminis as Geminis are known for being untrustworthy and can be the con artists of the zodiac. Geminis can be quite charismatic, great with their words and are chameleons.
Madam Morrible - Capricorn Sun
Madame Morrible is a Capricorn through and through. Capricorns crave control, they typically can lack warmth and often see people as chess pieces to enhance their social standing. I have known plenty Capricorns more than I can count on both my hands and their coldness, detachment and need for control are traits that line up through them all. This doesn’t mean all Capricorns are evil but they often have a habit of projecting THEIR view of you and how you will function in their life and benefit them, which leads them to forget the person that is standing right in front of them.
We see this throughout the movie. Of course, Madame Morrible was kind to Elphaba when she realised the power she holds and how this can benefit her and the Wizard. She soon discards Elphaba as soon as she realises that she no longer has control over her; she paints her out to be a monster to all of society. Capricorns also end up befriending signs that are easily malleable like Pisces, Cancers and possibly Libra, due to their desperate need to be led and liked.
So it does track with Glinda giving into Madame Morrible turning into a political prop. That being said you can be the most passive person, non confrontational person but eventaully you will want to break free from control. Madame Morrible is essentially a power broker; I can’t think of a more fitting title for a Capricorn.
Boq- Pisces
Pisces is such a fitting sign for Boq, the sign that is often associated with fantasies, creativity and delusion. From we first meet Boq we know that he has his eyes set on Glinda even though his chances with her a very limited; he cannot help but pursue his fantasies even at the expense of Nessa. Pisces can be major simps so his admitting he would do anything for Glinda is no surprise. Despite this, Boq did mean well but didn't go about things in the best way.
